Laser Hair Removal
Traditional hair removal techniques such as shaving, plucking, waxing, and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief - in fact, shaving can actually stimulate hair growth. Until now, the only recognized way
to remove hair permanently was by electrolysis - which can be tedious, time-consuming and uncomfortable.
Thanks to the GentleMAX's advanced technology, we now have the ability to offer laser hair removal to everyone. Whether you are fair skinned, dark skinned or tanned, our Candela GentleMAX laser can eliminate the need for shaving, plucking, or waxing.
Laser Hair Removal is for Everyone Regardless of Skin Type.

How does the laser remove hair?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into the skin tissue targeting the pigment in the hair follicle causing injury to that follicle. The Dynamic Cooling Device technology patented to the GentleMAX system cools the skin with a burst of cryogen before and after each pulse of light, maximizing client safety and comfort. Hair grows in three distinct cycles. The laser can only permanently eliminate hair follicles that are in the growth (or anagen) phase, and not all hair follicles are in the growth phase at any given time; therefore, more than one treatment needs to be scheduled, preferably at 4- to 8-week intervals. With multiple treatments, we can ensure that most of the hair follicles are disabled. Since the laser targets the pigment in the hair, your hair needs to be darker than your skin. In general, laser hair removal is not effective for white, gray, blond, or red hairs.
Are there any complications associated with laser hair removal?
All of our laser treatments are performed by registered nurse and laser safety officer, Toni Dardeno, who has had over ten years of experience in cosmetic laser. Laser hair removal is considered a "lunch time" procedure as there is no recovery o down time involved. Clients may return to their normal activities immediately. Because our lasers do not injury the inner layer of the skin, the dermis, complications associated with laser hair removal are rare. As with any medical treatment, you will be given an informed consent to read over that explains all the possible risks. Sun exposure or tanning beds and certain medications can sometimes make the skin more sensitive to the laser.
Am I still a candidate for laser hair removal if I have gray, white,
blonde, red or light fine hair?
You will not be a good candidate for laser hair removal since the laser needs to see the hair follicle in order to destroy it. Hairs with little or no pigment cannot be detected by the laser. However, a product called MeladineTM can be used prior to laser treatments to deposit natural melanin into the hair follicle allowing the hairs to be detected by the laser.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The FDA has cleared laser hair removal as "Permanent Hair Reduction". Since many factors including hormonal imbalances, stress, medications, and certain diseases could cause hair growth, new hair may appear where growth was not seen previously. It is our experience that the injured hair follicle will not repair itself.
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
Typically 5 to 6 treatments will be sufficient if the recommended treatment schedule is followed. One may also need more or less than six treatments depending on hair type, treatment area, and previous methods of hair removal.
Why do I need multiple treatments?
Hair growth is a 3-stage process: anagen (growth), catagen (transition/regression/breakdown), and telogen (release/rest). Laser hair removal produces the best results when it is performed during the anagen or growth stage of hair development. A person's total hair population is not in the same phase of the hair growth cycle at the same time. At any given time, most hairs will be in the anagen phase, some will be in the telogen phase, and a very small amount will be in the catagen phase. Therefore, multiple treatments spaced out over several months are needed to tackle a person's entire population of hair.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Laser Enhanced Therapies considers your comfort a priority. Although laser hair removal can cause some minor discomfort, most people consider the procedures tolerable and well-worth the results. For areas that are particularly sensitive, we give clients the option of using a numbing cream 1 hour prior to treatment in order to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
What do I do if I want to use numbing cream before my treatment?
When scheduling your appointment, make sure to let us know whether you will be numbing prior to treatment. Numbing cream can be called in as a prescription at your pharmacy - most insurance companies will cover it. Some clients choose to numb in our office while others apply the cream themselves and come to their scheduled appointment ready for treatment. After applying the cream, it takes roughly one hour for the skin to absorb the medication.
What should I do (or not do) before my treatment?
Four weeks prior to treatment, you should not wax, pluck, or tweeze hairs within the treatment area. The laser needs to be able to detect the hair bulb which is in the dermis of the skin. It is absolutely fine to shave the area because the hair bulb remains intact.
Two or more weeks prior to treatment, sun exposure should be limited as skin with underlying redness will be more sensitive to the laser.
Twenty-four hours prior to treatment, we ask that clients shave the treatment area. It is best not to shave right before a laser treatment, especially for those that are susceptible to razor burn, because inflamed skin can be more sensitive to the laser.
What can I expect after the procedure?
Immediately following laser hair removal, the skin usually becomes very warm and rash-like in appearance. This disappears within a few minutes. Cool compresses are applied to the treated area to decrease redness and discomfort. You may resume normal activity after your treatment and re-apply make-up and sun block. We recommend that clients moisturize the area frequently and apply sun block prior to sun exposure. For the next two months after treatment we highly recommend avoiding unprotected sun exposure as the laser makes the skin more sensitive to the sun.
